Elocution Topics
Grades 1 to 4
- When I grow up, I would like to be …
Grades 5 to 8
- “The family that prays together stays together.” What does this quotation mean? What does it mean to you? Describe a situation where you can apply this quotation to an aspect of your personal life.
- Name and elaborate about the things you learn from your teachers and friends.
Grades 9 & up
- Many of the young people in the Knanaya community have started to drift away. As youth members who have not strayed away from the community, what would you do to bring those individuals back into the “fold”? What activities, programs, or other actions would you implement to encourage a revival of the youth community?
- Indian children have to live up to very high academic expectations from parents and schools. Is this a true statement? And is that good or bad?
- What is the influence of Hip-Hop and Rap culture on today’s teenagers?

It is the responsibility of each unit's President and secretary to submit (final list) all the names of participants (including all the participants for group items) by June 24, 2008. Each unit must confirm with the Arts and Literary chairman before June 24, 2008. Once the final list is established and published on our website there will be no changes permitted.

General Rules
- Participants can only compete in their specified age/ grade group.
- Grade group is based on the grade that the participant just finished before summer.
- All participants must provide a photo I.D. to prove their age and support I.D. to prove their grade.
- A participant can take part in a maximum of 4 single items.
- Participants must be ready and must report to the designated location at the stipulated time.
- Late comers will not be accepted. ** NO EXCEPTIONS **
- Time limits will be monitored by clock. Participants who go over the allocated time will be disqualified and/or points will be deducted.
- Participants or parents are not allowed to discuss or approach judges at any time. Violators will be disqualified.
- Any disputes related to the competition need to be turned in to the arts and literary competition chair in writing within 6 hours of the announcement of the winners. No verbal complaints will be considered.
- Winners must pickup or make arrangements to pickup their trophy at the stipulated time.
- Decision by judges will be FINAL.
Group Items
- Minimum: 2 participants, Maximum: 12 participants.
- Younger participants may participate with older group, however
§ at least 50% of participants should be from that age group
§ participants for group item can only compete in one group for the same item (ex: A 6th grade participant can compete in Group 3 Folk Dance Group, but then cannot compete in Group 2 Folk Dance Group.)
§ Older Participants are not allowed to participate in a younger group.
Dance Competitions
- Only one song on CD (must play any format) or cassette.
- CD or cassette must be given to DJ before the event with the chest number marked on it.
- CD or cassette will not be accepted once the program has started.
- Folk Dance: No Film songs.
- Classical dance: any form of classical dance.
Other Competitions
- Solo Vocal: No Karaoke or background music.
- Spelling Bee will be an oral competition.
- No background music allowed for Purathanapattu.
- The Bible quiz is based on entire bible and Knanaya history.
